This piece of art describes the battle between the gods and the giants. The giants, as helpless tools, were dragged up the stairs to worship the gods. Deeply carved figures overlap one another. In this relief sculpture, there is no space, all the figures a overlapping and close together.
Nike of Samothrace
For the goddess Nike. She was meant to stand in or above a fountain representing a figurehead of a boat. We can see that because of movement in her clothing. She was probably built to commemorate a naval victory in 191 B.C.E.
