Built on artiical mud brick terraces, by famous architechs, Darius I and Xerses I in 500 BCE. Built for particular gatherings and festivals. Darius selected this central location in Persia to ensure protection of the treasury. The audience hall was used for th ekings receptions and held thousands of people. Persepolis was later destroyed by Alexander the Great along with many other Persian art works and sculptures.
